Phone Policy, Camp Creideamh
Dear Parents
Please be assured that you may, in the case of a real concern, be able to contact Camp Creideamh at any time by phoning the Camp Director, Fr Eamon Roche, on 086 9972539. I will be on-site throughout the camp. If there is a real issue that you need to speak about please ring me.
However, the Camp has a no-phones policy for the children except for a short window from 6.30pm to 7.00pm each day in which time your child may contact you and speak to you or visa versa.
This check-in phone call should be short, e.g. 2 to 3 minutes maximum, and does not need to be every day. We are trying to cut down mobile phone usage to bare minimum and increase the time the children spend with each other.
At registration time on the opening day, the children’s phones will be kept in a safe place away from the children throughout the camp and given to the children for use between 6.30pm and 7.00pm each day.
If you do not get a phone call or text message from your child on a particular day between 6.30pm and 7.00pm it usually means that they have decided to play football or go swimming or is busy with something else. That is the nature of the camp – there is lots of fun. So do not be surprised or upset if you do not get a daily phone call or text message. The absence of a phone call does not necessarily mean that anything is wrong.
Unless there is an emergency or serious issue the camp leaders will not be able to arrange a check-in phone call with your child outside of the 6.30pm – 7.00pm time-period as this is too disruptive of camp activities.
Based on past experience of Camp Creideamh we have noticed that many parents are exceedingly anxious when they do not have the means to be in full and direct contact with their children at all times. While we understand this, it is an issue that puts a strain on the camp leaders. We hope that you understand.
